“The fact that the admittedly strained food supply lines have held together is in no small part thanks to the 8,500 people who work at Hunts Point. Most are coming to work, and they are now suddenly among the city’s most important employees. But, like everywhere, Hunts Point is a fearful place these days. Executives say eight of the 28 workers who tested positive for Covid-19 have returned to work. Last week the Teamsters Union Local 202 bought masks for the market’s truckers and gave them out to anyone who wasn’t wearing one.
“I give management a ‘B+’ for effort in keeping the place safe and a little less for execution,” said Danny Kane, president of the Teamsters local.”
